A root canal is the process of cleaning infected nerve tissues inside the root of a tooth. The canals are filled with filing material to seal them against future infections. A temporary filling is placed to protect the tooth until a permanent restoration can be placed. A permanent restoration should be placed as soon as possible.

It is normal to have some sensitivity around the treated area for a few days. Your doctor may prescribe you pain medication or antibiotics after the procedure.
